One downside to the amount of news coming out of Cage Warriors FC is the current card is getting a little buried. CWFC 57 for instance sees the return of Ronnie Mann, 58 heads to Chechnya, and 59 hosts a four-man tournament for the bantamweight title…all taking place after CWFC 56 this weekend. CWFC 56 takes place June 7th at the Forum in London, England with a live webcast in the US at MMAjunkie.com.
The main event of CWFC 56 marks the promotional debut of both Vincent Del Guerra and Bola Omoyele. 20-8 Del Guerra is both eight years younger than Omoyele and four times as experienced in MMA. Omoyele is officially on a five-win streak but had only one public fight in the past year-and-a-half, a TKO of Warren Kee in April 2012. What kept Omoyele out of the cage his involvement in TUF: the Smashes (UK vs. Australia) in which Omoyele was submitted by Manny Rodriguez which technically if not officially broke that win streak. In the time since Omoyele has been out of public events del Guerra has gone 4-1 with three wins in a row, most recently a KO of Cristian Magro in May.
The co-main event sees the return of Robbie Olivier as he fights Patrik Berisha. Olivier hasn’t fought in Cage Warriors since July 2003, instead moving to the now-defunct Cage Rage and most recently a host of smaller organizations. Since losing to current Bellator champion Pat Curran at Trojan MMA in February 2010 Olivier has gone 3-0 with one “no contest”, his most recent being a unanimous decision over Ismael Padavia in May. Switzerland’s Patrik Berisha has never gone to a decision while in the same time since Olivier’s fight against Curran Berisha has gone 3-1 with one “ no contest”, the NC being in his most recent fight against Martin Buschkamp in February.
